Key learnings :-

From hands-on competition and post-run analysis we identified clear technical upgrades and design changes required to be competitive at the next inter-college events:

Battery: Voltage sag under load from current 3S packs reduced performance. Recommendation: upgrade to 4S high-discharge pack (approx. ₹7,000) and add quality connectors/wiring and a BMS for safety and longevity.

Motor & drivetrain: Current motors lacked torque/thermal headroom. Recommendation: 1000 RPM motors with planetary gearbox (planetary gearbox type for torque multiplication). Estimated at ₹1,800 per motor; 4 motors required per car for our design.

Tyres / traction: Upgrade to competition-grade tyres for grip and consistent performance on variable surfaces.

Powertrain matching: Ensure ESCs, battery and motor specs are matched (voltage/current capability).

Mechanical robustness: Stronger motor mounts, improved gearbox mounts, and better chassis rigidity to reduce drivetrain losses.

Controls & sensors: Better motor controllers and basic sensors (e.g., wheel encoders or IMU) for finer control during the race.

 Objective :-

Build one new competition car (prototype) designed to be highly competitive/unbeatable vs other university entries by addressing the above weaknesses. Requested budget estimate: ₹25,000. Detailed cost breakdown below for approval.

Justification & expected performance gains :- 

  • Moving to 4S increases available motor RPM/torque envelope and reduces heavy voltage sag — translates directly to faster acceleration and more consistent lap times
  • 4 × 1000 RPM motors (planetary gearbox) increase torque to overcome inclines and sharp edges while maintaining reliability. Planetary gearbox improves torque density with compact packaging.
  • Upgraded tyres improve cornering and reduce lap time variance.
  • Matched ESCs + BMS + wiring reduces failures and performance loss due to overheating/voltage drop.
  • Overall this package targets improved acceleration, better sustained speed under load, more predictable handling, and higher reliability — the combination needed to beat other institute entries.

 Procurement & implementation plan (high level) :-

Approval & budget release for ₹25,000 for prototype build.

Procurement (preferred vendors/online marketplaces / local hobby shops) — order battery, motors, ESCs and tyres first (lead items).

Fabrication — chassis & mounts fabricated in parallel with parts arrival (1–2 weeks).

Assembly & integration — wiring, BMS, controller, sensors (1 week).

Testing & tuning — bench tests, controlled track tests, tune PID/motor control and adjust gearing/tyres (2 weeks).

Final validation — mock competition runs, durability checks, spares inventory.

(Exact timings depend on vendor lead times and workshop availability.)

 Recommendation & approvals requested :-

Approve ₹25,000 for the construction of one prototype competition car as per the estimate table.

After prototype validation, request a follow-up budget to build additional cars (if desired) or for race-specific spares and a second prototype iteration.

Assign a small team (2–3 students + 1 faculty/mentor) to oversee procurement, fabrication and testing to ensure timely delivery.

 Conclusion :-

Our participation on 07-02-2026 highlighted both our team strengths and the specific technical gaps preventing podium finishes. The proposed ₹25,000 investment focused on battery, motor/gearbox, tyres and matched electronics is a targeted, cost-efficient step to produce a reliably faster, more robust competition car. We recommend approval to proceed with procurement and prototype build.
